It’s 1980, and Susan ‘Rita’ White has decided it’s time for a change.
A wise-cracking, no-nonsense hairdresser from the working-class streets of Belfast, Rita is tired of her job, her prospects, her husband, her life. She wants to be the sort of woman who knows the difference between Shaw’s Bridge and George Bernard Shaw, and so enrols in an Open Learning course in English Literature where she meets her tutor Frank. So begins her journey of self-discovery.
Frank has his problems too. Divorced, an alcoholic, and sick to the back teeth of the pretensions of academic life, Frank finds Rita’s enthusiasm for learning and down-to-earth attitude refreshing. Frank and Rita make an unlikely pair, but could they really show each other a way to a better future?

Join the Ulster Orchestra in a musical celebration of fifty years as Northern Ireland’s world-class symphony orchestra in ‘The Music Of Genius’.
Few in history truly deserve the epitaph of ‘a creative genius’ but tonight we can enjoy not one, but two composers who are undoubtedly worthy of such praise! In their short lives [Mendelssohn died at thrity-eight, Mozart only made it to thirty-five] they each wrote some of classical music’s greatest masterpieces and this evening the Ulster Orchestra perform two of the best-loved of these.
Mozart’s brilliant ‘Jupiter’ symphony No. 41 and Mendelssohn’s virtuosic Violin Concerto. The Ulster Orchestra’s Leader, Tamás Kocsis, takes centre stage as soloist and the concert will be conducted by the Orchestra’s sensational young Music Director, Rafael Payare.

This comic tale of mistaken identity unfolds with real wit and style. A Portuguese time share villa has been double booked without the company representative, myopic tippler Commander "Chitto" Chittenden knowing. When Mary and Henry arrive shortly after Eve and Leslie, Chitto manages to remain unaware that there is more than one couple on the scene. The confusion is compounded when each couple mistakes the other for the servants.
Henry seems to have the upper hand when he discovers that Eve is married, but not to Leslie, when his mother in law arrives and he has to bride the other couple to impersonate his alibi, Sir Piers and Lady Marchbanks. Girlfriend Mary has to play the servant, much to her annoyance, but it looks as though things might work out until the real Sir Piers arrives followed by Henry's wife. Hilarious disguises donned by Mary, Perky, Eve and Leslie might just save the day!
Performed by one of Northern Ireland's newest and most innovative amateur drama societies.
