NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON ON SALE AT THE MARKET PLACE The Market Place Theatre in Armagh has just released its new Spring | Summer 2017 programme packed full of the best in entertainment including shows, workshop and exhibitions to keep audiences flooding back time and again. The choice is endless, so here's just a glimpse of some of the treats on offer.
On Saturday 11 February, the family fun kicks off with our ever-popular Family Super Saturday and the production ‘Shark In The Park’. This fin-tastic, family musical follows Timothy Pope [and his telescope!] on three exciting adventure. Timothy Pope is looking through his telescope – but wait, is that a Shark, in the Park!? Family Super Saturdays include one hour of fun activities including themed craft workshop, face painting, balloon modelling and fancy dress competition. Great value for money!
Then on 18 February comes ‘You Must Be Joking’ with John Linehan and a host of Northern Ireland’s comedy favourites. Forget Brexit, the falling pound and global instability for a chuckle fest with the master of one liners Gene Fitzpatrick, the comedian’s comedian Adrian Walsh, star of ‘Heretic’s & Head The Balls’ Neil Dougan and our very own first lady of comedy the grand dame of panto May McFettridge. Pack up all your cares and woes with a glorious helping of classic comedy medicine!
The Lyric Theatre return on 28 February for two nights with Willy Russell’s award-winning comedy drama, ‘Educating Rita’. A wise-cracking, no-nonsense hairdresser from the working-class streets of Belfast, Rita is tired of her job, her prospects, her husband, her life. She wants to be the sort of woman who knows the difference between Shaw’s Bridge and George Bernard Shaw, and so enrols in an Open Learning course in English Literature where she meets her tutor Frank. So begins her journey of self-discovery!
The ever-popular ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Years’ returns on 7 April, with host George Jones celebrating songs from the 50’s and 60’s. Featuring the music of iconic stars such as Bobby Darin, Bobby Vee, Neil Sedaka, Patsy Cline, Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark to the early Rock ‘n’ Roll songs from Elvis and ‘The Four Seasons’, and starring ‘Clubsound’, Joe Mac, Margo Burns, Janet McCartney and Trevor Kelly, this is a celebration of music not to be missed!
The most exciting family show since time began arrives on 19 April, when ‘Jurassic Adventures’ comes to the stage. Get transported to a prehistoric place full of fun, thrills and screams, be amazed and awed by the birth of a baby Dinosaur, but beware of the T. REX mother who wants her egg back! This fully scripted adventure, allows you follow in the footsteps of Doctor Grant’s team of explorers, and laugh at their crazy antics, as they search for proof that Dinosaurs still exist!
On 5 May Get Ready to Rock out and Party On with ‘Classic Rock USA!’ Imagine a rock concert involving three of the biggest named rock stars of the 21st Century! ‘Classic Rock USA’ is a heart pumping, drum beating and pulsating rock extravaganza featuring over twenty-five hits from Bryan Adams, Jon Bon Jovi and the 'Boss' himself, Bruce Springsteen.
